It was great to conquer Arctic15 Smart Cities track once more as BusinessJärvenpää hosted an insightful and inspiring early afternoon with extremely innovative case studies along with world-class speakers.
One of the highlights of the track was eagerly anticipated 3D-based urban development showcase where I took the stage with CEO Petri Kokko from Sova3D. It was history in the making as no such audience collaborating, 3D city modelling exercise had been attempted before with actual city-level models. Needless to say, some excitement was in the air when opening the software as we were also pushing the limits of Cable Factory’s Internet connection with more than 2000 simultaneous visitors to the venue. But no risk, no results!
We not only succeeded in demonstrating how 3D-planning is done on a city scale but were also able to let the audience participate in the planning process while “building” the new Järvenpää city centre on the fly. During the 30 minutes showcase, a total of five tall buildings were added to the already existing model along with “Arch”, which was inspired by Eero Saarinen’s “Gateway Arch” in St. Louis. All of these ideas and models came from the audience as Petri and I interpreted them to the best of our abilities. Cool job.
A great experience and surely something we will further develop in the future!
